Overview of the Online Learning Environment

This orientation session should be completed before the start of the module on Microsoft Excel. For some students, it might be their first experience with the online learning environment. Students will be given tips on how to be a successful learner in an online environment, how to navigate easily within site, and how to appropriately participate in a online discussion board/forum. Students will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves to fellow classmates in this session.

Overview of Course - Spreadsheet Applications

This course is designed to give students an introduction to spreadsheets and how they can be used in a student's personal life, academic studies, and future careers. A spreadsheet is a software program that is used to to organize, analyze, calculate, and chart numerical data. Now who couldn't use more help in those areas! Session One - Introduction to Spreadsheets

In this session, basic features of Microsoft Excel will be presented using online tutorials. The focus of this session will be on spreadsheet screen elements, toolbars, and menu items. Students will investigate sites that demonstrate how the features of a spreadsheet are accessed and used. To become familiar with the Microsoft Excel screen, students will complete self-assessments on screen features and toolbars icons. Finally, students will complete all assignment and participate in the discussion forum.

Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and applications, as well as an understanding of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.

In this session, formulas and functions found in Microsoft Excel will be presented. Students will complete assignments that employ these features.

Session Three - Creating graphs/charts

Welcome. In Session Six you are going to learn about graphs. Graphs are useful because they communicate information visually - they show what you are trying to say. For this reason, graphs are often used in newspapers, magazines and businesses journals. The basic graphs to be discussed in this lesson are: column, bar, pie, line, and XY scattered. Once you get the hang of charts I think you will have fun with them. See you online!
