Message from Cheryl DeSpirt, Principal

I am excited to have the opportunity to develop Van Sickle Middle School as a school of choice for Springfield's middle school students. With the exception of infancy, there is no other time is a young person's life that is filled with as many emotional, social, intellectual, and developmental changes as the middle years. Given this, I believe our students are best served in a learning environment that offers intellectual and emotional support, academic rigor, and genuine acceptance of students at this developmental stage. We are prepared to work with our students and their families to realize their full potential as scholars and citizens.

Vision and Mission

Van Sickle Middle School believes that all students can achieve regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, societal patterns, language spoken at home, or previous academic experiences. All students can learn at high levels. Because our students come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, we strive to differentiate academic instruction to provide equitable opportunity for the intellectual development of all students and to ensure equitable involvement in the total school community.
