Graduation Requirements

The City of Springfield School Committee has approved a new Pupil Progression Plan (PPP) for the Springfield Public Schools, effective for 2009-2010. The graduation requirements for Springfield Central High School have changed.

Students of Classes 2010-2012 will continue with the previously exisiting graduation requirements outlined below in Table 1. Incoming students of Classes 2013 and beyond must meet the new graduation requirements outlined below in Table 2. Additionally, in order to receive a diploma, students are required to meet the Proficiency level on the state-mandated MCAS ELA and Mathematics Tests (Class of 2010) and the Needs Improvement level on the Science Test (Class of 2011 and beyond).

As mandated by the new SPS Pupil Progression Plan (PPP):

  • Students must schedule seven (7.0) credits of approved courses each year.
  • Credits required for promotion:
    • to Grade 10 = 5.5
    • to Grade 11 = 11.0
    • to Grade 12 = 17.0
  • Students of Classes 2013 and beyond who have not successfully completed grade level course requirements in English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies will not be promoted to the next grade level.
