When does school start?
• Grades 1-12 – August 27, 2012
• Kindergarten Screening – August 27 through August 31, 2012
• Kindergarten – September 4, 2012
• Preschools – September 5, 2012

What are the school hours*?

* Please confirm school hours with each school as these might change.

Does my child get bus transportation?
• Transportation is provided for students in Kindergarten-Grade 5 if they live more than 1½ miles from their assigned school.
• Transportation is provided for students in Grades 6–12 if they live more than 2 miles from their assigned school.

Parents/guardians should call their assigned school after August 21st for bus stop locations and times. Additional information may become available on the Springfield cable television system during late August.

What about before and after school childcare programs?
Programs vary throughout the school system. Contact your child’s assigned school for specific information. Additionally, The Preschool Enrichment Team is a community resource that can assist you in locating appropriate childcare programs for children up to twelve years old. They may be contacted at 736-3900.

What should I do if I change my address?
Parents/guardians should go to the Parent Information Center at 22 Mulberry Street to verify your new address. Please bring proof of your new address - Proof of Residency (PDF).

How do I enroll my child in Gerena or Zanetti Montessori Pre School Programs?
These are the only Pre School Programs that PIC oversees the short form registration, online balloting and the wait list for.
The short form registration and online balloting takes place each year during the first 3 weeks of March. You need a long form birth certificate and proof of address to do short form registration.
After that timeframe you will not be able to participate in the online balloting process. Parents will still be able to complete a short form registration and a wait list form to be added to existing wait lists for these 2 Pre School programs.

Children must be 3 on or before September 1 to qualify for a 3 year old placement.
Children must be 4 on or before September 1 to quality for a 4 year old placement.
There is no transportation for these 2 Pre School Programs – Parents must provide their own transportation.
Children must be potty trained.
Pre School Hours:
Gerena: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Zanetti: 8:05 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Pre School is not mandatory

¿Tendrá transportación escolar mi niño(a)?

Después del 21 de agosto, ustedes pueden llamar a la escuela asignada a su hijo(a) para preguntar por la parada y la hora en que la guagua va a pasar. A finales de agosto la televisión (Springfield Cable) puede que tenga más información disponible.

¿Habrá Programas antes y después del horario escolar?
