The National Association of Addiction and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) has recognized William Cosgriff as the recipient of the 2012 Mel Schulstad Professional of the Year award. The honor is bestowed on a single counselor annually, chosen from a nationwide pool of candidates.
Cosgriff has served Springfield Public Schools for more than 35 years, including work as a teacher, adjustment counselor, psychologist and supervisor. For 20 years, he has worked in the district’s alternative school setting, including Springfield Public School’s Liberty Preparatory Academy, a school for students struggling with substance abuse issues.
Created in 1979, the Mel Schulstad Professional of the Year award recognizes an individual who has made outstanding and sustained contributions to the advancement of the addiction counseling. The NAADAC will present the award to Cosgriff during their annual conference in Indianapolis on August 13.
