METCO Application Process for the 2013-2014 Academic Year

The Springfield Public Schools will be accepting applications for the METCO program from Feb.1, 2013 to April 1, 2013. The purpose of the METCO program is to expand educational opportunities, increase diversity and reduce racial isolation by permitting students in Springfield to attend public schools in other communities that have agreed to participate.  To be eligible for the program, the child must be a resident of Springfield and also be of a racial background that is non-white.  The participating host communities in the Springfield METCO Program are East Longmeadow, Hampden/Wilbraham, Longmeadow and Southwick-Tolland.

Applications are now available online. Only online applications will be accepted.

Parents/guardians needing assistance or access to a computer to complete the application can visit the METCO office at the Parent Information Center, 22 Mulberry Street, Springfield between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The number of openings available in each grade level is determined by the school committees of the host districts and students will be assigned based on their lottery numbers.  Parents are not able to select the district they wish their children to attend.

For more information about the METCO application process, please contact the METCO department of the Springfield Public Schools at 413-787-7294 or 413-787-6764.
